Mildred Maxine Westen, 101, passed away on April 13, 2018, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born April 23, 1916, in Waterloo, IA, she was the daughter of Allen Kuhn and Lila Mae King Kuhn. She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1934 and attended Ottumwa Business College. On April 8, 1945, she married Charles William Westen.
She was a homemaker and minister's wife. In 1964, she began working at Marshalltown Area Community Hospital as the director of admissions and insurance. Later, she served as the Assistant Administrator of Bethany Lutheran Home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. After moving to Burlington, she worked for Community Action.
Maxine was an active member of First Christian Church until a few months before her death. As long as she was able, she enjoyed corresponding with friends and relatives, crocheting, traveling, and cooking. She loved to talk to people.
Survivors include one son, David Westen of Fort Worth, TX: two daughters, Rebecca (Ronald) Teater and Deborah Westen, both of West Burlington, Iowa; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and seven nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by Charles Westen, her parents, her brother (Carl David Kuhn), and one nephew.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM with the family to receive friends Thursday, April 19, 2018 at First Christian Church.
The celebration of life for Mrs. Westen will be 6:00 pm Thursday, April 19, 2018, at First Christian Church. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the fellowship hall following the service.
A memorial has been established for First Christian Church.
