Obituary

Dale Edward Martin, 78, of West Burlington, died at 9:45 PM Wednesday, December 25, 2019, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born October 27, 1941, in Iowa, he was the son of Leo Jacob and Helen Marie Owen Martin. On February 6, 1965, he married Lois Jane Hacker. She passed on April 21, 1969. He then married Elaine Barber and they later divorced.

Dale worked for the City of Burlington as an electrician, worked as a roofer and in housekeeping at the hospital. 

He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. He enjoyed watching Chicago Cubs and Bears games, and playing ping pong, basketball, pool, and Rummy. He was a member of the Burlington Gym, Eagles club and the old downtown Burlington YMCA. He loved to be outdoors and was an avid fisherman and pheasant hunter, and loved spending time with his friends and family.

Survivors include his daughter, Julie (Jack) Cavender of Burlington; two step-sons, Mike Giberson and Danny (Anita) Barber both of Burlington; step-daughter, Kim (Barney) Pfeiff of Burlington; nine step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Martin Duke of Burlington; brother, Richard "Tino" Martin of Burlington; two brothers-in-law, Alan (Betty) Hacker of Burlington, and Paul Hacker of Austin TX; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his first wife Lois, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Doris Martin and Betty Rawlings; four brothers, Leo, Jim, Tom, and Don Martin.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Per his wishes there will be no visitation or services at this time. The family will be having a celebration of life in Dale's memory at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Divine Mercy Parish - St. John's Catholic Church.
