John Alan Blumgren, 68, of Burlington, died at 7:43 AM Saturday, August 31, 2019, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born July 9, 1951, in Vinton, IA, he was the son of Dr. John E. and Susan Anne Blumgren. In December of 1973 , he married Barbara Bohnsack of Vinton, IA. He is now with Barb and two of their three children, Jade Angela Blumgren and Seth Alan Blumgren.
Survivors include sister, Jean (Robert) Ives of Burlington, IA, daughter, Amber Blumgren and children, nephew Jason Ives, niece Elizabeth Hubbard and two grand nieces and a grand nephew.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory and a memorial service will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church in Burlington, on Monday, September 9 at 10:30 AM. Interment will be in Scottsdale, Arizona with Barb, Jade and Seth. There will be no formal visitation.
Growing up, John's family traveled often and he visited all 50 states. He moved to Phoenix, AZ where he lived 30 years. In 2016 he moved to Burlington, IA.. John was an avid sports fan especially The Iowa Hawkeyes , Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Cardinals.. He played football and basketball during high school as well as swimming competitively. He attended Cornell College where he played football for one year. He transferred to University of Northern Iowa and graduated with a degree in business. He was an excellent salesman! He started with selling shoes, was a drug representative for Lederle Drug company, worked for Three Minute Oats, sold fund raisers to schools and sold longterm care insurance for Equitable, among others. John enjoyed camping and spending time with his family. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Burlington where he attended church and classes. John had a very strong faith which carried him through hard times.
