Obituary

Mary Joann Wehrle , 82, of Burlington, died at 11:05 PM Friday, July 26, 2019, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born August 10, 1936, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Edmund and Mildred Luegering Clemens. On November 22, 1959, she married Jack Wehrle in St Mary's Catholic Church in West Point. Jack passed on December 8, 2018.

She was a graduate of Mount Mercy Nursing School.

She worked as a Registered Nurse at the old Mercy Hospital and later at Burlington Medical Center. She also worked in the bridal department at J.S. Schramm's Dept. Store.

Joann was of Catholic faith and was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was the 1st Queen Crowned at the West Point Sweet Corn Festival. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, sewing, playing cribbage, traveling and taking family vacations. Joann volunteered for many years at the Great River Klein Center.

Survivors include four sons, Tony (Dana) Wehrle of Rock Island, John (Laura) Wehrle of Burlington, Eric (Amy) Wehrle of Tampa, FL, and Patrick (Amy) Wehrle of Fort Madison; two daughters, Maria (Mark) Brockway  and Ann (John) Carl of Burlington; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sue Jennetten of Peoria, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one infant brother, Joseph. 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends following a 4:30 PM Rosary Service until 7:00 PM Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Wehrle will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at Divine Mercy Parish-SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Inurnment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, West Burlington. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the Parish Center at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church following the burial.
