Nathan Watson

August 17, 1948 ~ May 1, 2018 (age 69)

Nathan Watson Jr., 69, of Burlington, died at 5:15 PM Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born August 17, 1948, in Helena, AR, he was the son of Nathan and Johnnie Mae Taylor Watson. He was married to Carolyn Cooper until she passed on December 8, 2007. On November 17, 2008, he married Vickie Cowan in Burlington, IA. 

He worked in construction all of his life. 

He was a member of the Masonic Temple Des Moines #1. He enjoyed listening to music, fishing and working on cars. He loved to joke around and had a good sense of humor.  

Survivors include his wife, Vickie Watson of Monmouth, IL; two sons, Nathan (Sarah) Watson, III and Derrick (Kaci) Watson both of Burlington; five daughters, Brenda Johnson and Mickey (Anthony) Thurman both of Arkansas, LaToya (Gerald) Terry, Sonya Severado and Shakyia Watson all of Burlington; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother, Jimmy Watson of Grady, AR; eight sisters, Viola Watson of Burlington, Shirley (Kirk) Beckman and Gale (James) Brown, Catherine Johnson, Angie Patterson, Lorene Davis, Samella (Thomas) Robinson, Katie Watson all of Burlington, and Patricia Watson of Flint, MI; several nieces and nephews; and three step-children, Jovanah (Keith) Bug of Mokeena, IL, Dominick (Stephanie) Reading and James Hightower both of Monmouth, Il; and his special friend Robert Clay.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Carolyn Watson; one granddaughter, Dacia Watson; one niece Alphia Brown, one grandson, Jamari Carter, and his oldest sister, Riola Watson. 

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mr. Watson will be 10:00 AM Thursday, May 10, 2018, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Supt. Mr. Fred Starling officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Trinity Lutheran Church following the burial. 

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
