Otis Lee Shipley,77, of West Burlington, passed away at 3:25 AM Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at Great River Hospice House, in West Burlington, Iowa.
Born June 4, 1942, in Lock, OH, he was the son of Maurice Barton and Adra Harrison Shipley. On July 7, 1962, he married Peggy Ann Schwerin in St. Paul's First United Church of Christ in West Burlington.
Otis was a supervisor over the metal works and tool room and he was a tool and die maker at Champion Spark Plug for 23 years.
He was a 1960 graduate of Burlington High School then attended Southeastern Community College.
Otis was a member of Carthage Lake Club for many years and St. Paul First United Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing, hunting golfing and could fix anything. Otis loved his children, family, grandchildren and friends. He always said, "I never belonged to a lot of organizations, but spent my life with my children".
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Shipley of West Burlington; three sons: Dan (Dee) Shipley of Burlington and Doug (Cheryl) Shipley and Wade (Laura) Shipley both of West Burlington; six grandchildren: Tyler, Anna (Austin) Kelzer, Emma, Luke, Austin and Samantha; one great-grandchild and the light of his life, Waylon Kelzer; two brothers, Tom (Elaine) Shipley of Des Moines and Jim Shipley of West Burlington; four sisters: Lora Parks of Macomb, Judy (Doug) Coyle of Middletown, Velma (George) Johnson of Burlington and Rhonda (Mike) Miller of West Burlington; many nieces and nephews; one sister-in-law, Sally Hand; and his life long friend, Dick Garnjobst. After moving to Illinois 20 years ago, he also became acquainted to the Russell family and they became like a second set of brothers to him.
Besides his parents, Otis was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry and Johnny, and two sisters, Carolyn and Nancy.
Visitation will be from noon until 6:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Friday, August 16, 2019 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Otis will be 6:00 PM Friday, August 16, 2019, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Dean Graber officiating. Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory following the service. A celebration of his life will be continued Saturday, August 17, 2019 from noon until 4:00 PM at Carthage Lake Club.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.
