Reynaldo "Rey" Villarreal, 28, of Burlington, died at 1:45 AM Sunday, September 8, 2019, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born August 8, 1991, in Galesburg, IL, he was the son of Florentino and Maria C. GuajardoVillarreal.
Rey worked as a chef at the restaurant Good.
He was a 2009 graduate of West Burlington High School.
He enjoyed playing the guitar and played in many bands which he also toured with. He enjoyed bicycling and RAGBRAI, cooking, particularly vegetarian recipes, attending cancer charity events and designing graphics. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his mother, Maria C. Villarreal of Peoria, IL; four sisters, Englentina Nunez and Marisol Santos both of Burlington, Rosalinda Badillo of Peoria, IL, and Melinda Vargas of Metamora, IL; one brother, Florentino Villarreal, Jr. of Huston, TX; 20 nieces and nephews; nine great-nieces and nephews; and three grandmothers, Eglentina Guajardo of San Benito, TX, Maria C. Saldaña and Jovita Frias both of Brownsville, TX.
He was preceded in death by his father Florentino Villarreal, grandfathers, and many more.
Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM with the family to receive friends following a 2:30 Rosary Service Sunday, September 15, 2019, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Rey will be 10:00 AM Monday, September 16, 2019, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Father Daniel R. Dorau as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be in Point Pleasant Cemetery in Roseville, IL. A time of food and fellowship will be held at St. John's cafeteria following the burial.
