Obituary

Richard E. "Teno" Martin Sr., 87, of Burlington, died at 9:30 PM Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born November 20, 1932, in Burlington, he was the son of Leo Jacob and Helen Marie Owen Martin. In December 1952, he married  Patricia Hendricks, they later divorced. He then married Sue Elaine Venard in Burlington, Iowa.on January 12, 1962. She passed on December 31, 2013. 

Teno worked as a roofer and was the President of the Roofing Union. He later worked in production at Murray & Exide.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War from January 8, 1953 until December 8, 1954.

Richard was of Catholic faith and was a member of Divine Mercy Parish-SS. John & Paul Catholic Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Teno also liked to play pool and cards and spend time brawling with his brothers at family events. He was a long time member of the Eagle's Club and called BINGO at the Burlington Gym for many years. 

Survivors include five sons, Bill (Shari) Martin of Burlington, Mike Martin of Burlington, Rich (Claudia) Martin of Burlington, Steve (Janet) Martin of Stevens Point, WI, and Danny Martin of Junction City, WI; thirteen grandchildren, Tia, Brittney, Ali, David, Liz, Jami, Kori, Lyndi, Jason, Shawn, Curt, Tara, and Felicia, 36 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois Martin Duke of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers: Leo, Jim, Tom, Dale and Don Martin, two sisters: Doris Martin and Betty Rawlings, and three great-grandchildren.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Mr. Martin will be interred with his wife at Keokuk National Cemetery in the spring. 

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.
 
A Celebration of his life and his Brother Dale's will be held this Saturday January 18, 2020 at the Burlington Eagles Club from noon until 3:00 pm.
