Richard "Dick" Knopp

June 6, 1923 ~ July 9, 2019 (age 96)

Richard "Dick" Knopp, 96, of Burlington, died at 12:02 PM Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born June 6, 1923, in Burlington, IA, he was the son of David and Ruth L. Friberg Knopp. On August 5, 1950, he married Phyllis A. Kelso in Burlington. 

Dick worked as a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1978.

He graduated Burlington High School in 1941. 

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during World War II from 1943 until 1946.

Dick attended SS John & Paul Catholic Church.  He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, the National Association of Federal Retired Employees and AARP. He enjoyed yard work, fishing, hunting, and bowling. He was an all around great neighbor, known as "Mr. Fix It".  He also enjoyed keeping up with current events.

Survivors include his wife; several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Robert, Ned, and Joseph and one niece, Joani K. Sturms of Keokuk.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Prugh's Chapel; 317 N 4th Street.

The funeral service for Mr. Knopp will be 11:00 AM Saturday, July 13, 2019, at Prugh's Chapel; 317 N 4th Street with Rev. Fr. Dan Dorau officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Paul's Catholic Church Fellowship Hall following the burial.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for Divine Mercy Parish - SS John & Paul Catholic Church.
