Thomas Joseph Zimmerman, 83, of Burlington, died at 7:31 AM Monday, January 13, 2020, in Burlington.
Born July 15, 1936, in Springfield, IL, he was the son of Albert Edward and Elizabeth Mary Roth Zimmerman. On May 5, 1962, he married Sue Carol Grammar in Springfield, IL.
Thomas was a retired microbiologist. He later became the Risk Manager for Great River Medical Center.
He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Microbiology from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL. He then went on to St. Ambrose University and graduated with a Master's degree in business.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from August 1, 1958 until August 1, 1966.
He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Carol Zimmerman of Burlington; one daughter, Mona E. Powell of Burlington; one grandson, Jacob Thomas Zimmerman of Burlington; one brother, brother, Father David Zimmerman of Paris, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers Raymond Leo Zimmerman, Albert Edward Zimmerman, and John Henry Zimmerman, and one sister, Mary Elizabeth Zimmerman Melton.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
The Rosary will be recited at 1:00 PM AM Friday, January 17, 2020 at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Paul's Catholic Church following which the family will receive friends until the time of service.
The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Zimmerman will be 2:00 PM Friday, January 17, 2020, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church with Rev. Father Daniel R Dorau as the Celebrant.
A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
