Dorothy M. Clark Schmeiser, 99, of rural Burlington passed away at Prairie Ridge on October 4, 2020.
Born August 22, 1921 in Warren County, IL to Winnie Johnson and Edward Clark, she was one of four children: Leo Clark, Eileen Guegler and Martha Yaley Handler.
She graduated from Burlington High School in 1939 and worked for Daily and Daily Law Firm as her first employment.
On November 14, 1942, she married Lloyd Franklin Schmeiser at First United Methodist Church in Burlington, IA. This union lasted 72 years, until his death in October 17, 2013. They lived their entire lives on the family farm on Highway 99. They had five children: Ivan, Jean, Joan, Kathleen and Ann.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 60 years. Belonging to Caring Friends and the Quilters, among other organizations. She loved the "Spiritual Formation Group" started by Rachel Ireland, meeting weekly for many years. In later years, she enjoyed sewing, reading and bird watching from her dining room windows.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Haltmeyer of Muscatine, IA and Joan (Robert) Goble of Burlington; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Ivan; and two daughters, Ann and Jean; one brother and two sisters.
No formal visitation is planned. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at 10:30 AM at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Rigdon officiating.
