George Moehle, 77, of Burlington, died at 5:00 am Tuesday, December 22, 2020, surrounded by his family at home.
Born February 18, 1943, in Brownwood, TX, he was the son of Frederic William Moehle and Margaret E. Shaw. He spent most of his life being raised by Margaret and Wilbur Eugene Mescher. On June 21,1969, he married Susan Kay Hallberg in Burlington.
He worked for his father for many years as an HVAC mechanic for Mescher's Heating and Air. He then spent 20 years working for Aldi's Mississippi bakery as the maintenance supervisor.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving from June 29, 1961 until June 25, 1965. He served on the USS Gearing reaching the rank of FTG3 and acting as a Fire Control Technician. He served actively on the Gearing while engaged in Dominican Republic operations from May 10, 1965-June 17, 1965.
George was an avid outdoorsman, who loved fishing, hunting and camping. When Sandy and Cindy were growing up, they regularly camped at Spring Lake here in Burlington. He enjoyed getting together and playing cards or golfing with friends, or knocking down some pins at the bowling alley. An experienced bowler, he played with his father in law, and in 2017 was named the Senior Bowler of the Year. He loved watching Nascar, but most of all, he loved his family, especially his grandkids.
Survivors include wife, Susan Kay Moehle; two daughters, Cindy S. (Ed) Whalen and Sandy L. (Jake) Whalen; five grandchildren, Colton, Kendra, Braydon, Reese and Ella; two step-sisters, Charlotte (Richard) Blanchard, Shirley Bodnar; one step-brother, Alan (Julie) Mescher; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two step siblings, Maggie and Butch, and one nephew, Donny.
Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 5:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Moehle will be 10:00 AM Monday, December 28, 2020, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Dean Graber officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Great River Hospice and the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
