Gregory "The Commish" Darnell, 64, of Burlington, died at 12:10 PM Monday, May 4, 2020, in Burlington.
Born January 13, 1956, in Wynne, AR, he was the son of Ivory Darnell Jr. and LeVern Brown Williams. He shared 47 years with his love, Geraldine Johnson.
He worked in construction.
He enjoyed fishing, reading, doing yard work and watching sports. He was a big fan of the Green Bay Packers and Boston Celtics. He loved music, especially Tupac. He was known for saying "Ain't nobody smarter than me". He was always the smartest man in the room. The Commish also loved to say "You mutha sucker, you!". He liked to talk small talk with anyone. He loved his family dearly.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Johnson of Burlington; his children, Jacob Johnson, Melissa (Sharee "Nurse Betty" Settles) Johnson, Latisha (Tim) Lewis, Danielle (Devlin Nicolas) Johnson, and Kia (Reggie) Elliott all of Burlington; 19 grandkids and 9 great-grandkids; one sister, Harriett Heath of Milwaukee, WI; five brothers, Ivory Darnell, Curtis Heath, Timothy Ashford, and Jessie (Sophene Patterson) Ashford all of Burlington, and Michael (Linda) Ashford of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, one sister and two nieces.
