John Coe Latty, 81, of Burlington, died at 1:23 PM Saturday, January 25, 2020, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born November 21, 1938, in Burlington, he was the son of John Penny and Helen Gregson Coe Latty. On March 19, 1961, he married Patricia Bischoff at Zion United Church of Christ in Burlington.
He graduated from Sperry High School in 1956 and attended Iowa State University.
John was a lifelong farmer and a proud 4th generation owner of his family's century farm founded in 1834.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church. John loved farming and was passionate about the care of his family's land. He was constantly working to improve the quality of the property through projects such as creating ponds, cutting brush and taking out fence rows.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia of Burlington; one son, John Paul (Linda) Latty of Burlington; one daughter, Julie (Greg) Letvin of Lockridge; four grandchildren, Emma and Johnna Latty, Michael Letvin & Jessica (Brandon) Daugherty; one great-grandchild, Kaden; one niece, Deborah Pintar and two nephews, Phillip and Matthew Thye.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Carolyn Stebbins and one niece, Lisa Wischmeier.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
Per John's wishes there will be no services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the First Congregational Church and the Des Moines County Historical Society for the maintenance and operation of the Hawkeye Log Cabin in Crapo Park.
