Lorena Louise Kivlahan, 81, of Burlington, died at 10:40 PM Sunday, May 3, 2020, at her home.
Born March 16, 1939, in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of Paul William and Laura Louise Gaedke Hillebrand. On October 27, 1962, she married James Jerome Kivlahan M.D. at St. Norbert Church in Inkster, MI. He preceded her in death on September 3, 2017.
Lorena worked as a registered nurse at her husband's medical office for 43 years. She retired in 2013.
She graduated from St. Mary's Academy, Monroe, Michigan in 1957. She graduated with a nursing degree from Providence School of Nursing, Detroit, MI in 1960.
She was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church. She was also a member of D.A.R. Mayflower Society 17th Century Colonial Women, Questers and Red Hat Society. She enjoyed traveling, having visited 68 countries, reading, mostly history books, playing mahjong and bridge on Monday at the Senior Center and bridge marathons.
Survivors include five daughters, Lori "Laura" Kivlahan of Fort Madison, Margaret (Tom) Herman of La Habra, CA, Jane Best of Eden Prairie, MN, Kathy (David) Suarez of Burlington, and Annie (Marcus) Powell of New London; eleven grandchildren; three sisters, Kitty Winke of Fort Madison, Jane Hillebrand of Flint, MI, and Mary Margaret Hillebrand of Southfield, MI; and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh-Thielen Crematory.
The Private Graveside Committal Service for Mrs. Kivlahan will be held on Saturday at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society and Divine Mercy Parish.
