Paul D. Anderson, 88, of Burlington, died at 10:27 AM Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born April 20, 1932, in Hancock County , IL, he was the son of Lawrence Glynn and Rosa Catherine Thele Anderson. On June 15, 1957, he married Delores Mary Niehaus in St. Mary's Church in Kingston.
Paul graduated from St. Paul's High School in Burlington in 1949.
He worked as a truck driver for Drake Hardware and mechanic for International Harvester prior to operating a Texaco service station and U-Haul dealership. He went on to build, own, and operate Anderson Service Center in West Burlington until he retired.
Paul was a member of Divine Mercy Parish - St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where he served as a lector and maintained the church/school vehicles for many years. His patron saint is St. Paul the Hermit. He enjoyed listening to music (bluegrass, country, polka, big band, early rock and roll), dancing with his wife, traveling, camping, attending music festivals, examining engines at the Old Threshers Reunion, reading about numerous topics, studying history, and spending time with his wife, family, and pets. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Knights of Columbus.
Paul was known for his quick wit, ornery sense of humor, honesty, compassion, and generosity. He was a true caregiver and affectionately known by his family as “the responsible one”.
Paul will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Delores Mary Anderson of Burlington; daughters, Barbara (Chris) Homan of Pleasant Hill, MO, Nancy (Randy) Schultz of Lee's Summit, MO, and Jenifer (Kevin) Peery of Blue Springs, MO; son, Peter Anderson of Marion, IA; grandchildren, Justina (Eric) Lovich, Spencer Homan and Nick Schultz; great-grandson, William Lovich; sisters, Rosemary Friedman of Burlington, Carol Huber of Moline, IL, Margaret (Paxton) Lowery of Sarasota, FL, and Jane Crawford of Brighton, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, and their families; dear friends, Jay and Patty Smith and Jesse and Rachael Smith of Burlington; extended family, Lindy, Hailey, and Zachary; grandpups, Bella and Sophie, grandkitties, Leo, Holly, Corliss, Cora, Clive, Clawdy, Nadine, Hattie, Chloe, and Shady; and great-grand kitty, Lola.
He was preceded in death by one son, Gregory; parents, Lawrence and Rosa; two brothers, Leo and John; one sister, Catherine; a special niece, Jeanne; and many pets.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
Due to concerns of Covid-19, the family has requested that all who attend wear masks and social distance.
The Rosary will be prayed for Paul 10:30 AM , Friday, September 24, 2021 at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Anderson will be 11:00 AM , Friday, September 24, 2021 at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Father Mark Niehaus as the Celebrant and Father Tom Niehaus as the Co-Celebrants. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, rural Kingston later in the day.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Divine Mercy Parish and Notre Dame School.
