Richard L. O'Daniels, 95, of Burlington, died at 12:30 AM Monday, February 3, 2020, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born July 21, 1924, in Burlington, he was the son of Leland Otis and Pauline Rebecca Mathews O'Daniels. On October 11, 1944, he married Mary Rose Rosipayla in Portsmouth, VA. They were happily married for 75 years.
Richard was a 1943 graduate of Burlington High School.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during World War II from April 23, 1943 until December 7, 1945. He was stationed in Norfolk, VA on the LST 133 during WWII.
Richard was a Sales Engineer for B.L. Robinson and Company for 40 years.
Richard was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. He was the Secretary/Treasure for the Western Little League from 1959 to 1975. He was also Treasurer for the Burlington Baseball Association from 1970 to 1980, then President from 1981-1982. He loved attending major league baseball games. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society from 1998 to present and was Vice President from 1999 to 2005. He was also an usher at St. Paul Catholic church. Richard enjoyed woodworking, remodeling and could fix anything. He was always busy helping others.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Robert (Jan) O'Daniels of Seattle, WA; three daughters, Diane (Larry) Croft, Kathy (Ben) Akers both of Eldridge, IA, and Pat O'Daniels of Arlington, TX; one daughter-in-law, Kerry O'Daniels of Cave Creek, AZ; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Rick O'Daniels, one brother, Deryl O'Daniels, and his sister, Phyllis Holihan.
Visitation will follow a 4:30 PM Rosary Service until 7:00 PM Thursday, February 6, 2020, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. O'Daniels will be 10:00 AM Friday, February 7, 2020, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church with Father Bruce DeRammelaere as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the St. Paul Church Hall following the service. Private family inurnment will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.
