Walter Dean Day, 70, of Burlington, passed away at 12:30 PM Sunday, June 7, 2020, surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Burlington.
Born April 29, 1950, in Marshfield, MO, he was the son of Walter S. and Lula Mae Day and the second youngest of eleven. He graduated from Hillcrest High School in Springfield, MO in 1968. On July 24, 1970, he married Judy Ann Quehl in Springfield, MO. He served in the United States Navy from August of 1968 - August of 1972.
Dean was a card carrying machinist at BNSF for many years. He also drove for Burlington Trailways where he often took the Burlington Bee's and SCC Blackhawk's to and from games. In his retirement years he drove a school bus for the Burlington Community School District.
He enjoyed fishing, slow pitch softball, golf, bowling, cars, wood working, fixing things for people and being a grandpa. He was the Little League Commissioner in Hugo, OK. He served in the Burlington Optimist Club for many years, worked as the Youth Director at Oak Street Baptist Church for a number of years and attended the Burlington Campus of Harmony Bible Church.
Survivors include his wife Judy Ann Day of Burlington, daughter Stacey Ann (Christopher) Giffin of West Burlington, two sons Christopher Dean Day of Burlington, and Walter Scott (Kristin) Day of Lewiston, MN; three grandchildren Kaylei, Jessayln and Micah Day; brother Larry Day of Springfield, MO, three sisters June (Paul) Willard and Sarah Sue Day of Springfield, MO, as well as Donna Gill of Idaho; and too many nieces and nephews to count.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, four sisters, two nephews, two nieces, one great niece, and one great nephew.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Prugh Crematory.
There will be a celebration of life service at a later date.
