Annie (Adair) Cross

May 28, 1945 ~ June 19, 2019 (age 74)


Annie Cross, 74, of Middletown, passed away at 5:27 AM Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.

Born May 28, 1945, in Clarinda, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Ruby Sullivan Adair. On June 28, 1962, she married Francis Dewayne Cross in Clarinda. 

Annie was a housekeeper at Great River Medical Center and Burlington Community School District before she retired.

Annie was a caring, wonderful, selfless woman who would help anyone. She loved her family; she was "the glue that held them together". Annie loved spending time with her children and grandbabies. Her grandkids were her everything. She regularly hosted family functions, where she would make her famous potato salad or salmon salad. Christmas was a big deal for her, and she took decorating and gift buying very seriously. In her free time, Annie loved her slot machines and planting flowers. She loved talking to her friends and family, playing games on her tablet and drinking coffee. She loved her life and was rich in love. 

Survivors include her three sons, Dewayne (Therese) Cross of Gold Canyon, AZ, Randy (Dove) Cross of Middletown and Brian (Katie) Cross of Plainfield, IN, two daughters, Angie (Randy) Crowell of Burlington and Marsha (Pat) Zahn of Middletown; five grandchildren: Jerrmie, Casey, Delaney, Anna and Mariah; two great-grandchildren: Gracie and Jocelyn; two sisters: Phyllis and Lavonne, one brother: Les and her cat, Sugar.

Besides her parents, Annie was preceded in death by four brothers, Bobby, Kenny, Keith and Jerry, three sisters, Linda, Jean and Kay and her beloved dog, Nikki.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

There will be no visitation or services.

A memorial has been established in her name.
