Barbara Sutter

August 18, 1924 ~ April 3, 2019 (age 94)

Barbara Sutter, 94, of Burlington, died at 5:10 PM Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at the Bickford Cottage in Burlington.

Born August 18, 1924, in La Harpe, IL, she was the daughter of Benjamin F. and Ruth E. Smiddy Louden. On September 27, 1952, she married Raymond "Joe" Joseph Sutter in Burlington, Iowa. He passed on March 11, 2013.

Over the course of her career, Barbara worked as an executive secretary at Murray Iron Works, LeHigh Leopold Furniture Company and for the National Research Bureau in Burlington. 

She was a 1941 graduate of Terre Haute. She attended Burlington College of Commerce.

Barbara was a member of Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church. She was a 50 year member of Chapter of BD TTT, Des Moines County Historical Society, Burlington Golf Club, and volunteered at the Port of Burlington Welcome Center. She enjoyed golfing, tennis, playing bridge, and was an avid reader. 

Survivors include two daughters: Tracey (Roger) Swaine of Largo, FL, and Jane (Gary) Brandt of Rochester, NY; one son, Andrew (Cathy) Sutter of Poway, CA; one sister, Linda Louden of Apache Junction, AZ; two grandchildren: Skyler Sutter and Megan Swaine; two step-grandchildren: Rhett Brandt and Rhiana Brandt Bangs; three step-great-grandchildren: Ryan and Tierney Brandt and Kellan Bangs; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Roger, David, Robert and Donald; two sisters, Elizabeth Moore and Marilyn Ingram.

Visitation will be from noon until 6:30 PM with the family to receive friends following a 4:30 PM Prayer Service until 6:30 PM Thursday, April 11, 2019, at  Prugh's Chapel downtown.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Sutter will be 10:00 AM Friday, April 12, 2019, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant.  Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the fellowship hall of St. Paul's Catholic Church following the burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Divine Mercy Parish and the Burlington Public Library.
