Brian James Stone

February 3, 1941 ~ November 23, 2018 (age 77)

Brian James Stone, 77, of Wever, died at 3:20 AM Friday, November 23, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.

Born February 3, 1941, in Muscatine, he was the son of Gordon William and Kathleen Wilson Stone. On April 15, 1966, he married Patricia "Patty" McNeil in Wapello. 

He graduated from Wapello High School and went on to earn his Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Iowa and his MBA from Northern Illinois University.

Brian devoted his career to continuous improvement in manufacturing. Beginning at US Steel in in Waukegan, IL, and then Sundstrand in Rockford, IL, he moved to Ft Madison to work at Sheaffer Pen, where he retired as Manager of Manufacturing after 30 years. After Sheaffer, he worked at Winegard and taught management classes for Iowa Wesleyan University and CBIZ at Southeastern Community College.  He enjoyed teaching and received many accolades from his students.

Brian’s true heart was for his family and his faith.  He was a member of Harmony Bible Church where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday school and men’s bible studies, and was an Awana leader for over 30 years, mentoring many youths.  He loved attending Community Bible Study. He also served on the board for Hope Haven, Tri-State Family Services in Carthage, IL, and Friends Reach Out.  He enjoyed fishing, watching Hawkeye Wrestling, collecting electric trains, listening to jazz, playing pool and shuffle board, and working in the garden and yard

He is survived by his wife Patty; one son, Gordon (Renee) Stone of Denver, CO; two daughters, Jennifer (George) Owens of Knob Noster, MO, and Katy (Jerry Chinn) Stone of Seattle, WA; five grandchildren, Maya, Alexandra, Kelsey, James and Allie; two cousins, Marcia Matthews Marlette of Wapello and Nancy Matthews Tsvinsky of La Belle, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 28, 2018 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The memorial service for Mr. Stone will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Carr officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the memorial service.

A memorial has been established for Harmony Bible Church and Ravi Zacharias International Ministries.
