Daniel Joseph Newberry, 64, of Burlington, died at 7:15 AM Sunday, October 20, 2019, in Burlington.
Born November 20, 1954, in Burlington, he was the son of Frank E. and Mary M. Newberry. On April 23, 1977, he married Pamela K. Duke at Saint Paul's Catholic Church in Burlington.
He worked for CNH for 30 years before retiring. After retirement, he worked in food service for the Burlington Community School System.
He attended both Burlington Notre Dame and Burlington High School, graduating in 1974.
Dan was of Catholic faith and was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, attending at St. Paul's Catholic Church. He loved boating on the Mississippi, golfing and wood working. He also enjoyed the Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs and spending time with his grandsons, family and friends. Dan refereed basketball and belonged to the Iowa SE Officials Association and Iowa Girls High School Association. Dan was an organ donor and his corneas have been accepted by the Iowa Lions Eye Bank.
Survivors include wife, Pam of Burlington; daughter, Rebecca (Jeff) Freeman of Davenport; two sons, Matthew (Andrea) Newberry of Waukee and Peter (Brittany) Newberry of Des Moines; four grandsons: Sam and Benji Freeman of Davenport, and Winston and Vaughn Newberry of Waukee; two sisters, Nancy (Paul) Hertel and Jeanne Ertz both of Burlington; three brothers, John (Cindy) Newberry of New London, Tom (Pam) Newberry of Burlington, and Frank (Lori) Newberry of West Burlington; and a boatload of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Newberry, brothers-in-law, Mark Kohorst and Andy Ertz and maternal and paternal grandparents.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church.
The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Newberry will be 10:00 AM Thursday, October 24, 2019, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
