George Adam Vineyard, 83, of Burlington, passed away at 9:26 AM Friday, September 6, 2019, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born June 12, 1936, in Revere, MO, he was the son of Joseph Lawrence and Laura Maisie King Vineyard. On August 20, 1961, he married Rita Johnson in Anson, MO.
George was a math teacher at Burlington High School for 40 years before he retired.
He was a 1954 Revere High School graduate and a 1963 University of Missouri graduate. He had his BS and BA in Education from the Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville and his Masters in Mathematics from the University of Missouri.
He was a member of Asbury Methodist Church. George enjoyed playing guitar, listening to music, gardening, yard work and traveling. Rita and George were proud foster parents for 35 years and during that time over 200 children lived in their house. They were recognized as Foster Parents of the Year.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Rita of Burlington; one son, Joseph Vineyard of Kahoka, MO, six daughters, Kim (Mike) Sadler of Carrollton, TX, Lori (Darin) Conners of Kahoka, MO, Denise (Dave) Poland of Quincy, IL, Brandi Vineyard of Burlington, Andrea (Cole Mason) Vineyard and Joely (Patrick Fahy) Schwartz all of Burlington; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, George was preceded in death by three brothers.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.
There will be no visitation or services.
A memorial has been established for a student scholarship in Mathematics.
