James Arthur Whitehead

November 9, 1928 ~ May 3, 2018 (age 89)

James Arthur Whitehead, 89, of Carman, IL, died at 5:03 AM Thursday, May 3, 2018, at the Lewis Memorial Christian Center in Springfield.

Born November 9, 1928, in Wyaconda, MO, he was the son of James Arthur and Eva Horn Whitehead. On June 21, 1951, he married Eva Darlene Webber in Kahoka, MO. She died on May 12, 2016.

James worked in production for Caterpillar Inc.

He enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren and friends.  He and Eva were snowbirds and enjoyed traveling together after he retired.  He found joy in farming, fishing on the Mississippi River, and surf fishing in Florida and Texas.  His grandchildren will always cherish their memories of time spent with him, hunting on the Missouri farm, and fishing and water skiing on the Mississippi River.

Survivors include one daughter, Debra Lynn (Roy E.) Bockler of Pekin, IL; one son, James Calvin (Michelle Simmons) Whitehead of Eldon, MO; five grandchildren, Michael, Nicholas, James, Amy, and Summer; five great-grandchildren, London, Ellie, Christopher, James Arthur, Chase, and Lilliana Darlene; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma and Callie, and two brothers, Clark and Albert.

A memorial has been established for the Carman United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the Carman United Methodist Church.

The funeral service for Mr. Whitehead will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at Carman United Methodist Church with Rev. Lisa Unger officiating.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the Carman Community Center following the service. Burial will be in Memphis Cemetery at 3:00 PM.
