Obituary

Reverend Bobby Lewis, 76, of Burlington, died at 2:18 PM Friday, August 28, 2020, in Burlington.

Born August 31, 1943, in Neelyville, MO, he was the son of Elmer Golf and Pearly Mae Lewis. On September 13, 1975, he married Gladys Mae Burns in Burlington. She passed on September 23, 2005.

He worked for J.I. Case for over 30 years. He also worked for Rutherford Potato House, GE and did security at Menard's. 

He was a U.S. Army Veteran.

Bobby had a gentle soul. He was so easy to talk to and would give all he had to help another person; he never knew a stranger.  He was a grandpa to everyone he met. He had a strong, Baptist faith and was a member at Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church. During his membership there, he was a pastor, and was very active within the church and with the parishioners. He loved fishing, bowling, and watching the Cubs. He liked to go for long car rides, out-of-town trips and to see the Christmas lights during the holidays. He also enjoyed taking weekend adventures with the grandkids and attending their sports games. He was a member of the American Legion. 

Survivors include  his children: Susan Bridges, Nathaniel Bridges, Robert Brown, Jr., Richard Brown, Patricia Brown, Cora Cratton, Lathan Brown, and Joyce Smith; 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn (Willie) Holloway and Lucille Chaney; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Billie Gene Hanes and Herman Lewis, and one sister, Brenda Lewis. 

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, September 3, 2020 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Reverend Lewis will be 10:00 AM Friday, September 4, 2020, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
