Obituary

Clair Rose Bessine, 92, of Burlington, died at 2:45 PM Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born February 16, 1928, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Clyde and Nellie  Hartman Springsteen. On October 27, 1951, she married Robert E Bessine in Burlington, Iowa. He later passed on September 7, 2016.

She was a talented seamstress and made all of her children's clothes, including matching Barbie outfits for her daughter's dolls. She also knitted thousands of baby hats during her lifetime which were sent all over the world to children in need. Clair loved her family and was a proud homemaker. She was also passionate about baking and decorating cakes and owned and operated Clair's Cakes in Mediapolis from 1968 until 1992. Clair was a die hard Cubs fan. She loved her church family and enjoyed many years attending Burlington Baptist Church. 

Survivors include two sons, Danny  (Debbie) Bessine and David (Kathy) Bessine both of Burlington; one daughter, Barbara (Chris) Gray of Donnellson; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, two sisters and one great-great granddaughter.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The Celebration of Life for Mrs. Bessine will be 3:00 PM Sunday, July 12, 2020, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Kendall Adams officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Great River Hospice House and Klein's Center.
