Robert A. “Butch” Martin, 73, of Burlington, died at 3:15 pm Saturday, August 1, 2020, at his family home in Burlington.
Born June 28, 1947 in Richmond, Virginia, he was the son of Robert Harry and Vivian “Polly” Pauline Daniels Martin.
Robert taught for 22 years at several secondary schools in Indiana.
He was a 1965 graduate of Notre Dame High School and was the catcher for the ND baseball team. After high school, he attended SCC and was the trainer for the men’s basketball team. He received his Associates Degree and transferred to Indiana University where he received his teaching degree.
He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish and the Burlington YMCA, where he worked out year round. He loved to travel across America and even visited New Zealand. He always grew tomatoes in the summer which he shared with his friends and neighbors. He enjoyed baseball, reading, walking, and working on projects around the house. During frequent morning coffee or lunch with friends, he enjoyed discussing politics and golf.
Survivors include his brother, Randy Martin, of New York and his sister, Rebecca Bisel of Thornton, Colorado and Burlington friends Connie Siefken, Richard Shadley, and Burton Prier.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Rosemary and his brother, Raymond.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
The Committal Service for Mr. Martin will be at the University of Iowa cemetery and his cremains will be buried near his parents, as per his wishes.
